Steven G. Horn

PARTNER, DIRECTOR OF TAX PLANNING, COMPLIANCE SERVICES AND INTERNATIONAL TAX

At the age of nine, Steve Horn was already an entrepreneur managing his own business. “From an early age, I had a strong work ethic and wanted to earn money. I started a paper route in third grade that I kept all the way until my junior year in high school,” says Steve. “I seriously ran that route like my own company, collecting fees, keeping clients satisfied and understanding the importance of deadlines...it was Business 101.” Those skills eventually worked in Steve’s favor while serving as President his senior year of a multi-state youth organization. “It was an amazing experience and great responsibility at that age to lead and direct a program of that magnitude.”

Also musically talented, Steve played the clarinet and saxophone as a member of both the marching and pep bands at the University of Tennessee. “The seats for the Big Orange football and basketball games were too awesome to pass up,” says Steve. However, the early tenacity and drive as a young “business owner” propelled Steve directly into the business, accounting and management courses in college.

After graduate school, Steve accepted an offer with Price Waterhouse in Atlanta, eventually serving as a Tax Manager. “Esther and I were planning to marry and it was a great opportunity to relocate here.” In 1992, Steve left Price Waterhouse after seven years and joined WBL. As a partner in the firm, he is the Director of Tax Planning, Compliance Services and International Tax Consultation. Steve has over 24 years experience in tax planning and return preparation for corporations, individuals, partnerships, estates and trusts. His specialties are diverse, from performing FAS 109 and FIN 48 calculations for public companies to developing tax strategies for closely-held businesses, as well as representing taxpayers in IRS and state tax controversies. Steve is the author of the firm’s tax planning letters for client distribution, and previously served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Harcourt Brace Publication, CPA Internet Connection.

Married for over 24 years, Steve and Esther have had an eventful life together, traveling internationally for business and pleasure to Spain, Hong Kong, Singapore, Israel, Italy, France, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, England, Canada, Finland and Mexico. “Our passport stays full”. Their most recent trip was to Africa. With three daughters Erin (19, North Springs High), Jamie (15, North Springs High), Rebecca (10, Epstein School) and a female dog named Pepper, Steve adds, “You can include diplomat to my job skills.”
